Degree Description

The Petroleum Engineering Technology program prepares students to work as Petroleum Engineering Technicians in the oil and gas industry as well as related industries. The program provides education and training for students aiming for careers in various fields involving Petroleum Engineering Technology and related applied sciences and engineering technologies. It trains the petroleum engineering technicians in areas of upstream and downstream operations. The petroleum industry hires individuals for multiple field and office positions such as Petroleum Engineering Technicians, Production Operators, Field Service Technicians, Rig Officers, Well operation Technician, Refinery Operators.

Upon completion of the degree requirements, the student will receive a Diploma Degree – Associate of Science (AS) in Petroleum Engineering Technology.

Student Outcomes

The Petroleum Engineering Technology program adopts the “Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology – Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission” (ABET – ETAC) student outcomes. Graduates of Petroleum Engineering Technology must demonstrate:

  1. An ability to apply knowledge, techniques, skills and modern tools of mathematics, science, engineering, and technology to solve well-defined engineering problems appropriate to the discipline;
  2. An ability to design solutions for well-defined technical problems and assist with the engineering design of systems, components, or processes appropriate to the discipline;
  3. An ability to apply written, oral, and graphical communication in well-defined technical and non-technical environments; and an ability to identify and use appropriate technical literature;
  4. An ability to conduct standard tests, measurements, and experiments and to analyze and interpret the results; and
  5. An ability to function effectively as a member of a technical team
